Trump Visits Texas, Dams Overflow, Record Set; Hit-and-Run Suspect Surrenders; SW Philly Shooting

President Donald Trump visited flood ravaged Texas today as rains continue to fall. He visited Corpus Christie and Austin, TX. The president stayed away from some of the hardest hit areas like Houston and Rockport because rescue efforts are still underway and his presence would be a distraction. Trump continued to promise that the federal government would act quickly to help the area recover. "Recovery will be a long and difficult road and the federal government stands ready, willing and able to support that effort," Trump said. Two 70-year-old dams that hold back waters in reservoirs near Houston started to overflow on Tuesday, adding to the water already in the city. Engineers tried to release water on Monday to alleviate pressure but it was not enough. Harvey has set the record for amount rainfall from a tropical system in the contiguous 48 states at 49.2 inches. 6-12 more inches of rain is still expected in the next 24 hours.

The suspect wanted in connection to a fatal hit-and-run in Center City Philadelphia earlier this month has surrendered to police. 35-year-old Brendon Hay turned himself in to police on Tuesday. Hay is accused of striking and killing 53-year-old Ann Broderick while she crossed the street on the 1300 block of Race Street around 3:30 a.m. on August 6th. He did not stop. She was found by a security guard and died a short time later at the hospital. Hay's white Jeep Wrangler was caught on surveillance tape. Tips from the public led police to a business in Collingdale. Hay is charged with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, and accident involving death.

Police are searching for a suspect who shot a man while he was sitting in his car on Monday night in Southwest Philadelphia. It happened around 9:30 p.m. on the 3000 block of South 74th Street near Lindbergh Boulevard. The victim was sitting in his car outside of his home when the gunman approached and fired multiple shots through the passenger side window. The man was hit in his legs, arms and abdomen. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition. Police are still trying to determine a motive.
