West Goshen Man Shoots Neighbor; Death at Tropicana Casino; Mom Abandons Son in NJ Woods

A Chester County man is under arrest after shooting his next door neighbor in West Goshen early Tuesday morning. It happened around 1 a.m. outside their homes on the 300 block of Box Elder Drive. 51-year-old Clayton Carter is charged with 1st degree murder and other charges in the shooting death of Brooks Jennings. There was a long standing dispute between the neighbors. Earlier around 7:50 p.m. Monday, police responded to a dispute between the two about cursing and a video recording in the backyard. Later after midnight, Carter said that Jennings shined a light into his eyes and he responded by driving a car onto his lawn and turning on the high beams. Carter then got a .380 caliber semi-automatic Ruger handgun. He shot Jennings once in the head and then stood over him and shot him again. Jennings' wife saw the second shot from the window of the house. Carter claims that Jennings threatened him with a knife. Apparently, Carter has disputes with several of the neighbors. He is currently being held in Chester County Prison.

One person was found dead and another injured inside a hotel room at Tropicana Casino & Resort in Atlantic City. The discovery was made around 5:30 p.m. on the 37th floor by hotel staff. Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said, "The people that were involved in this matter were guests and they had overstayed their registered time. As a result of that, hotel staff went to check on them. At that time, the police were called." The one person was taken to Atlantic City Medical Center in an unknown condition. The medical examiner removed one body from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

A South Jersey woman has been arrested for abandoning her 10-year-old special needs son in the woods. 39-year-old Debra Wisler of Millville Township is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. On August 3rd, a passing motorist saw the boy in the woods near the visitor's center of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. He was given food and water and checked by military first responders. The boy told them how his mother walked him into the woods with his luggage and then left. He said he fell asleep but woke up and was hungry. He was able to give them his mother's name. According to state troopers, Wisler abandoned her son after she found out he was not eligible for a child program at Joint Base McGuire-Dix. The Division of Child Protection and Permanency has found a temporary home for boy.
