Officer/Civilian Injured In Crash; Medical Marijuana Advances; Man Sells Drugs To Hospital Patient

Police are now investigating after two officers and a civilian were injured in a car crash Wednesday night. The incident took place on Stetson Avenue and Upsal Street in the East Mount Airy section of Philadelphia at around 9 pm. An officer was responding to a call of a person with a gun, when he struck the rear of the civilian's vehicle. All of the victims were taken to Einstein Medical Center for treatment. The victim's injuries all appear to be non-life threatening. Police are continuing their investigation.

Doctors in Pennsylvania will now be able to take steps to participate in the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program. The acting Physician General, Dr. Rachel Levine, announced the news on Wednesday that the doctors would be able to have their patients begin Medical Marijuana after completing the practitioner registry. The Department of Health took a survey among 119 doctors and 75% of them would register for the program. Two education providers have also been approved to offer training sessions required for practitioners wanting to participate. The Medical Marijuana Program became effective back in May of 2016, and is expected to be fully integrated into the health department by 2018.

A Montgomery County man is now in prison after he reportedly sold drugs to a hospital patient, who then died of an overdose from the drugs. The suspect, Travis Siuta, was seen 5 different times on a security camera, arriving at Einstein Medical Center in East Norriton, and selling heroin, pills and fentanyl to a 30-year-old patient at the hospital named Ciara Hadrick. A nurse found Hadrick dead of an overdose in the bathroom of her hospital room. Authorities are continuing an investigation, and say that Siuta set up the drug deals through text message.
