Man Found Dead In NJ Home; Highest Murder Rate In 5 Years; Philly Murder Investigation Continues

Police in Camden County are now investigating after a man was found dead inside of a home in Pennsauken, New Jersey. The man's body was found in a home on the 6000 block of Mansion Avenue at around 9:20 pm on Monday. Officers were flagged down by local bystanders near the home and checked out the house. It is still not clear on what was the cause of death, but police are suspecting that it may involve foul play.

Officials have now announced that the murder rate in Philadelphia is the highest it has been in 5 years. Police say that the rate has gone up 25% since 2012. Officials say that the murders are taking place in a concentrated area including Kensington and North Philadelphia east of Broad Street. Officials say the murder rate is rampant in these areas due to the high amount of drug trafficking that takes place. As of June 30th, 156 people had been murdered in Philadelphia, which is 30 more than last year at this time. Police are now enforcing more bike patrols in the affected areas, saying that they give the police better coverage of the areas. Police are also serving active warrants to known offenders, hoping it will help decrease the crime.

Police are continuing their investigation into a brutal murder of a man that took place in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia over the weekend. The incident took place on the 2900 block of East Orthodox Street at around 5:15 am on Saturday. Local workers have told police that they heard multiple gunshots at around 4 am. A little while later, a truck driver who was pulling into the transfer station, noticed something burning on the ground. Upon further investigation it was the victim's body burning. Police say that the man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, had his hands tied up behind him and was also blindfolded. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police believe that the man may have also been tortured before his death. The victim has still yet to be identified and police are searching for the suspect or suspects responsible.
