Woman Dies Saving Pets From Fire; New Trial Date Set for David Creato, Jr; Shooting/Crash in Delco

A woman died Wednesday morning after going back into her burning home to rescue two pets. The fire happened around 6:30 a.m. on the 2700 block of June Avenue in Bensalem, Bucks County. 39-year-old Tabetha Oakes Rutecki, her husband, and mother-in-law all made it out of the house safely. Rutecki went back into the home to save a dog and cat but never made it back out. Firefighters found her in the kitchen. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two were taken to Jefferson-Aria Health Torresdale for treatment. One firefighter suffered a minor injury. The cause of the fire has not been indentified. Battalion Chief Rob Sponheimer of the Bensalem Township Fire Department warns, "Once your outside, let us know, let the first responders know that your dogs are inside, that your cats are inside, your loved ones are inside, we'll go and we have the equipment and training to go do that stuff."

A new trial date has been set for David Creato, Jr. The new trial will begin on September 11th. Creato is accused of killing his 3-year-old son Brendan in October 2015 and leaving his body in the woods near their Haddon Township home. The original trial in May ended in a mistrial when the jury was unable to reach a verdict. The case is entirely circumstantial. Prosecutors do not have any witnesses, DNA, video surveillance, or other physical evidence that shows Creato committed the crime. In fact, medical examiners performed three separate autopsies and have not determined how Brendan died, let alone that he was definitely murdered. Prosecutors argued that Creato killed his son because his then 17-year-old girlfriend was going to leave him because she didn't like having the boy around. The defense maintains that Brendan wandered or was lured away from home that morning and tragedy struck.

One person is dead and two are injured after a shooting in Chester led to a crash in Eddystone, Delaware County. It happened before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at 11th and Brown Streets in Chester. Shots rang out killing 30-year-old Joseph LaTorre. Two others, who were shot and injured, got into a SUV and fled from the gunman. They made it into Eddystone where the SUV crashed into 4 parked cars near 9th Street and Eddystone Avenue. They were taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in critical condition. Police are investigating the cause of the shooting and searching for the gunman.
