April Kauffman's Husband James Arrested; Heat Overcomes CB South Grads; Stepfather ID in 1yo Death

The husband of murdered New Jersey radio host April Kauffman was arrested Tuesday morning as authorities attempted to execute search warrants on his Egg Harbor Township business and home. FBI agents and local police arrived on the 4000 block of Ocean Heights Avenue to serve a warrant at Dr. James Kauffman's office. They were met by Kauffman brandishing a 9mm Ruger handgun. A negotiator was called to the scene and Kauffman surrendered peacefully after a 45-minute standoff. He was arrested and taken to a Psychiatric Intervention Program for monitoring. He is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow point bullets and obstruction of the administration of law. The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office did not say what the raids were about, but that they were not directly related to the murder case. April Kauffman was found shot to death in the couple's home in May 2012. No one has been charged with her murder.

The record heat on Tuesday was too much for some attending a high school graduation in Bucks County. At least three people were treated by medics for heat-related issues on Tuesday afternoon at Central Bucks South High School on the 1100 block of Folly Road in Warrington, PA. The ceremony, which was held in the stadium outside, started at 4:15 p.m. Temperatures were around 93 degrees at the time in Bucks County. Guests had the option of sitting in the air-conditioned auditorium and watching a video feed. The students were sitting outside in the sun in their gowns. Those effected were treated and let go. One person was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital.

Philadelphia Police have identified the 'stepfather' charged in the sexual assault and death of his 1-year-old 'stepson.' 24-year-old Saleem Salaam is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, rape and other charges. Police responded to the 1700 block of South Conestoga Street on June 7th for the report of an unresponsive child. Salaam told them that the boy was upstairs and not breathing. Medics found the boy without a pulse and transported him to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia when he was pronounced dead. The attending physician found multiple bruises and signs of sexual assault. Salaam was initially identified as the child's stepfather, but he and the child's mother were simply dating and are not married.
