ex-Penn State president Graham Spanier Sentenced; Fire at Bensalem Acme; 4 Chester Shootings

Former Penn State president Graham Spanier was sentenced to at least two months in jail and two months of house arrest for failing to properly report allegations of child sexual abuse at the hands of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Spanier was convicted of misdemeanor child endangerment in March, but acquitted of a second endangerment charge and felony conspiracy. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $7,500 and perform 200 hours of community service. His full sentence is four to 12 months. Ex-athletic director Gary Schultz and ex-vice president Tim Curley pled guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment and testified at Spanier's trial. Curley was sentenced seven to 23 months, with at least three in jail. Shultz was sentenced six to 23 months, with two in jail.

Fire broke out at an Acme grocery store in Bucks County this morning. It started around 11:30 a.m. at the store located near Bristol Road and Pasqualone Blvd in Bensalem. Heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the roof and firefighters work to tame the fire. The store was evacuated. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is not immediately known.

There were four separate shooting incidents this morning before lunchtime in Chester, Delaware County, starting when a teenager was killed walking to school. A 16-year-old by was found shot multiple times near West 11th Street and Parker Street just before 8 a.m. He was on his way to Chester High School. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene. At 9:18 a.m. on the 1300 block of West 9th another person was shot in a car. They were driven to the hospital. Chester High School was placed on lockdown at that time as a precaution. At 11 a.m. there were reports of gun fire at the 200 block of W. 23rd Street. Finally at 12:28 p.m., an officer opened fire on a suspect who pointed a gun at him. It happened during a foot chase near the 1300 block of West 9th Street. No one was hit and the suspect was eventually caught.

UPDATE: The 16-year-old killed this morning on his way to school has been identified as Zion Abdullah.
