3 Killed in Row House Fire; Teen Shot 7 Times at Belmont Plateau; ex-Teacher Texts Former Victim

Two children and their grandmother were killed after a fire broke out in their row home early Sunday morning. Firefighters were called at 4:42 a.m. to the 1700 block of North 6th Street. The grandmother, 52-year-old Monique Guillory, lived in the house with her daughter, daughter's boyfriend, 9-year-old Prudence Figueroa, and 7-year-old Dean Figueroa. Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel said that 30 vehicles and 100 personnel were at the scene battling the blaze. The mother and boyfriend were able to jump to safety. They also dropped 9-year-old Prudence to firefighters. She, however, died from her injuries at Hahnemann University Hospital. Firefighters discovered the grandmother Monique and 7-year-old Dean once they were able to get inside the home. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Police are investigating after a teenager was shot seven times Sunday evening on Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park. It happened around 6 p.m. at a picnic area on Belmont Mansion Drive near Belmont Avenue. The 19-year-old man was hit seven times throughout his body. Police took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition. No arrests have been made.

A former Pennsylvania substitute teacher who was caught having sex with an underage student in car while parked in a cemetery is heading back to prison on a parole violation. Last year, 50-year-old Kelly Aldinger of Pen Argyl pled guilty to institutional sexual assault after having improper relations with a 17-year-student. She was sentenced to 3-23 months in Northampton County jail. Following her release in March and against the terms of her probation, Aldinger made contact with her victim through text and Facebook. Her defense lawyer says, â€œShe texted him in essence just to see if he was OK.â€ She also failed to cooperate with sex offender treatment and avoid unsupervised contact with minors. Senior Judge Leonard Zito sentenced Aldinger this time to 18 months to three years in state prison with one year probation. She'll also have to register as a sex offender for 25 years.
