14 Students Hurt in Lancaster Bus Crash; Germantown Invasion, Pursuit, Crash; Creato Defense Rests

14 students and a bus driver were taken to the hospital after their school bus overturned in Lancaster County on Wednesday morning. It happened around 8 a.m. on Route 30 at Route 896 in East Lampeter Township. The students were between 13 and 16 years old from Lancaster Mennonite School. Three of the students suffered serious injuries. A white car tried to pass a tractor-trailer carrying a prefab home, a construction escort van, and the school bus but misjudged the distance. The car hit the trailer and spun into the bus. The trailer hit the escort van. That car then fled the scene.

A home invasion in Germantown this morning led to a police pursuit and crash in East Falls. One suspect is in custody and another is on the loose. It started just before 10 a.m. when police were called to the 5000 block of Wade Street for a home invasion. The suspects fled in a black Acura and eventually crashed into another vehicle on the 400 block of West School House Lane. Two people in that vehicle were injured and taken to the hospital in stable condition. The two suspects fled the crash scene. Police apprehended one suspect in a nearby apartment complex. The other suspect got away. William Penn Charter School was place on lockdown while police searched for the second suspect. That locked has been lifted. One gun was found on the street and another in the car.

Both the prosecution and defense rested their case today in the trial of 23-year-old David Creato charged with killing his 3-year-old son. The defense only spent about 20 minutes presenting its case to the jury. Creato himself was not called to the stand. The prosecution contends that Creato killed his son in October 2015 because he was getting in the way of his relationship with his teenage girlfriend. The boy's body was discovered in a wooded area just a short distance from his home after being reported missing for a few hours. Medical examiners could not determine a cause of death. After resting their case, the defense motioned to dismiss charges because the prosecution failed to present evidence linking Creato to the crime. The judge denied that motion. Closing arguments will be heard on Tuesday.
