Man Found With Gun By TSA; Father Killed 18-year-old Daughter; Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure 2017

A Lehigh Valley man was arrested on Saturday at the Newark International Airport after TSA agents found a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag. TSA Officials say that one of the agents spotted the .9 mm semi-automatic handgun inside of the man's carryon bag as it was passing through the security checkpoint. Agents confiscated the gun and proceeded to place the man in custody with state weapons charges. Upon further inspection, agents saw that the gun was equipped with 18 hollow point bullets with 1 already in the chamber. The TSA is reminding all passengers that it is illegal to have any type of firearm including firearm parts and ammunition at the security checkpoints. Anyone who disobeys the law is subject to criminal charges as well as a possible $12,000 fine.

Authorities are continuing an investigation after they say an Allentown father shot and killed his 18-year-old daughter and then proceeded to kill himself. The horrific incident took place on Saturday, and police received a call from a relative of the family at around 1:45 am, to report the shooting. When police later arrived on the scene, they found both 60-year-old Jose Santos and his 18-year-old daughter Maria Santos dead with gunshot wounds. Police say that the father had left a note stating that he killed his daughter before taking his own life, but authorities have not released any information on a motive for the shooting. The investigation continues.

Thousands of people gathered on Sunday in Center City to take part in the 27th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The event hosted both a 5K race as well as a 1 mile walk, both starting at 8 am at Eakins Oval. Many families and friends formed teams to walk/run with to honor survivors or to honor the memory of a loved one taken from breast cancer. Once the races were over, many breast cancer survivors were honored in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum. The Susan G. Komen Foundation stated that 75% of the funds raised at the Race for the Cure go towards the Philadelphia Komen community grants and other health initiatives. 25% of the earnings go towards breast cancer research.
