Bystanders rushed to the aid of a girl trapped under a car after she was struck crossing the street in Southwest Philadelphia on Sunday evening. 9-year-old Mayonna Joseph was crossing the street with her sister 10-year-old Ariana Rivello at 60th and Kingsessing around 6 p.m. Sunday. The younger sister fell in the street and Ariana tried to help her up but it was too late. A passing SUV hit both sisters and then stopped, but Mayonna was pinned underneath the rear left tire. Bystanders rushed to the rear of the vehicle and were able to lift the car and move it off of the child. Both girls were taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Ariana suffered minor scrapes and bruises. Mayonna is in critical condition with severe trauma to her head and chest. Police are investigating the accident. Watch video of the heroic rescue below.

Two years ago, at the time a Temple University senior, Rachel Hall was struck and severely injured in a hit-and-run while riding her bike on the North Philadelphia campus. She was just days away from graduation and her family attended services in her honor while she remained in a coma. She was graduating cum laude with a major in criminal justice and was the goal keeper for the lacrosse team. Rachel suffered serious head and leg injuries and spent the next year in intensive rehab. One year ago, she was able to walk during graduation ceremonies on her own. Now this year, Hall continues intensive rehabilitation but has shown how far she has bounced back both physically and mentally. On Sunday morning, she joined 40,000 others and ran the 10-mile Broad Street Run. Rachel was cheered on by her teammates and the Temple University Marching Band. The crash happened on April 29th, 2015 at the intersection of Park Ave. and Diamond Street. 18-year-old Rashan Roberts pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 11 1/2 to 23 months in prison and five years probation.

The Atlanta Braves have released first baseman Ryan Howard from his minor league contract. 37-year-old Howard played 11 games for Triple A Gwinnett. He hit .184 (7 for 38) with one home run, five RBIs, 11 strikeouts and two walks. He is now a free agent. Last week he said, "There's more in the tank. If you walk away, don't walk away with something still left in the tank. Then you're wondering like, 'Man, what could I have done?' When I'm done playing, I want to leave it all out on the field." Howard has other opportunities opening up off the playing field though. Just last week, Delaware County venture capital firm SeventySix Capital announced that Howard will become a partner. The MLB star "will leverage his business acumen and relationships to source new opportunities for the firm and take portfolio companies to the next level. Additionally, he will work closely with entrepreneurs and investors who share in SeventySix Capital's commitment to building game-changing companies."
