Anarchist Protesters Vandalize Kensington; Teen Shot By Store Owner; Woman Fractures Baby's Skull

Two people have been arrested so far after a large group of anarchist protesters went on a vandalism rampage in Olde Kensington on Monday night. 45-year-old Geoffrey Suchocki of Doylestown and 28-year-old Patricia Monahan of Philadelphia were charged with causing and risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief, and related offenses. They were caught with masks, instruments for shattering windows, and a mission statement on how to disrupt capitalism. Police say they were positively identified by witnesses. 30-50 people descended on the area of N. 2nd and Jefferson Streets before 9 p.m. They wore all black and masks. The group smashed windows of higher end cars, splashed/sprayed paint on rental properties, broke surveillance cameras, damaged windows of homes, and spray painted messages. Police believe they are part of the anarchist group "Summer of Rage." They left behind a sign that says, "Gentrification is Death. Revolt is life."

A 16-year-old boy is in the hospital in stable condition after being shot by a store owner for vandalizing the shop. It happened around midnight on Tuesday on the 800 block of East Sanger Avenue in the Summerdale section of Philadelphia. Two teens went to Kenny's Beer Place to purchase beer. The 27-year-old store owner asked to see identification. When he refused to sell them the alcohol the teens began to trash the store. The vandalism continued behind the building. The owner fired his weapon once, but hit the teen in both hands as the boy raised together them for cover. The boys fled and the injured male went to Jeanes Hospital for treatment. The store owner is being questioned by police. No word on if charges will be filed.

A Pennsylvania woman allegedly fractured her infant's skull and tried to blame her baby's injuries on her 6-year-old son. 29-year-old Angelica Colon of East Stroudsburg is in jail and charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Simple Assault and Recklessly Endangering Another Person. Her 6-week-old son was hospitalized on April 13th. Colon told police that her 6-year-old son tried to take his infant brother out of the crib and dropped him. Doctors at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest determined the injuries were "massive" and "consistent with a punch, kick or slam." They also found evidence of past trauma. They believe the boy will likely be disabled because of brain injuries. Colon is being held at Monroe County Correctional Facility on $250,000 bail.
