Woman Collapses/Dies Scranton Half Marathon; Trial 3 DE Teens Starts; North Philly Multiple Shooting

A woman collapsed at the end of the Scranton Half Marathon on Sunday and later died in the hospital. 36-year-old Lindsay Doherty collapsed just after finishing the 13.1 mile race. Medical workers on scene tried to resuscitate her before she was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center where she died. The Lackawanna County medical examiner plans to perform an autopsy. Doherty was a married mother of three. She was a Scranton resident and ran the half marathon last year. Doherty worked in the development office of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton raising money for Catholic education. A prayer service was scheduled at her parish, St. Paul's in Scranton, for Monday night.

The trial of three teenage girls charged in the death of another teen following a fight in a high school bathroom last year started today in Wilmington, DE. On April 21, 2016, Amy Joyner Francis was attacked inside the girls' bathroom at Howard High School of Technology. An autopsy determined she died of sudden cardiac death caused by a heart condition. Two of the teens are charged with conspiracy in planning the fight. The other teen is also charged with criminally negligent homicide. The incident was caught on cell phone video. The case is a non-jury trial being held in Family Court.

Two people were killed and two others were injured in a shooting in North Philadelphia this afternoon. It happened around 3:30 p.m. on the 1100 block of West Stiles Street. One man was shot twice in the head. He was pronounced dead at Hahnemann University Hospital. A 31-year-old man was also shot twice. He died at Temple University Hospital. A 26-year-old man was shot twice and a 27-year-old man was shot once. They were taken to Hahnemann. The first was in stable condition, the second in critical condition. Police do not have a weapon or suspects. The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: A third person, the 27-year-old male, has died.

Sixer Dario Saric was named Rookie of the Month for March. He also took that honor in February. The 76ers are the first team to ever have two different players win Rookie of the Month honors multiple times in the same year. Joel Embiid won the honors in October/November, December, and January.
