Death Penalty Sought in Grace Packer Case; Delilahs Shooter Arrested; Mother Hits/Kills Child in SUV

Bucks County prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty against a Pennsylvania couple who is charged in the rape, murder, and dismemberment of the mother's adopted teenage daughter last summer. 44-year-old boyfriend Jacob Sullivan waived his formal arraignment today in court. He is charged with homicide, rape, kidnapping, and other counts in the death of 14-year-old Grace Packer. 42-year-old Sara Packer watched as he played out a rape-murder fantasy the couple had been planning. Grace was reported to the police as missing and the body was stored in cat litter in an attic. It was dismembered and dumped in a remote wooded area last fall before being found by hunters. Prosecutors will push to have them tried together. The trial is set for March 2018.

Philadelphia Police have arrested a man wanted in connection to gunshots fired outside a gentleman's club and a barricade situation in Northern Liberties on Monday night. 29-year-old Lawrence Mitchell of Philadelphia is charged with two counts of attempted murder. It happened around 6:10 p.m. Monday on the 100 block of Spring Garden Street. Mitchell used an AR-15 rifle with a scope to fire shots across the street and into the parking lot of Delilah's Gentleman's Club. A woman walking to her car from the club was narrowly hit; the shots hit her white truck instead. Mitchell shot from inside an unfinished apartment building. Police declared a barricade situation and even closed I-95, but did not catch the shooter that night. They believe the shooting was random and the woman was not targeted.

A 6-year-old child was struck and killed this morning in Chester, Delaware County. It happened after 9 a.m. on the 200 block of Ivy Street. The mother, 29-year-old Sharnei Thompson, was loading her kids in an SUV to take them to school. After placing a 4-year-old in a rear child seat, she moved the car out further to allow the other children to get in. In the meantime, the 4-year-old got out of the seat and was moving about the car. Thompson thought she put the car in park and turned around to tend to the child. She instead had the car in reverse and stepped on the accelerator. The SUV backed into 6-year-old Layla Rodriguez. A 10-year-old child was also hit but not injured. The child was rushed to Crozer Chester Medical Center by the mother but it was too late. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital. No word on charges. The accident remains under investigation.

Former Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins has learned that he will not make the Opening Day roster for the San Fransisco Giants. The 38-year-old former NL MVP and World Series champion was given a minor league contract in December and was competing for a spot during Spring Training. Rollins has played 17 seasons in the Majors, 15 of those with Philadelphia. He has announced what his future plans are.
