The deaths of a man and a woman found in separate locations in Berks County are being called a murder-suicide by authorities. Shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, Charity Groff called 911 and described hearing someone pounding on her front door and then hearing a gunshot. This happened on the 200 block of Fourth Street in Shoemakersville. 50-year-old Carol Zimmerman of Mohrsville was found shot behind the Groff's residence. Zimmerman managed to tell police, "Garry shot me," before she died. Police began to conduct a search of the area. 61-year-old Garry Maurer of Shoemakersville was found dead in his home about 50 yards away at around 4:30 a.m. He died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Zimmerman was a friend of the Maurer family and had helped care for his mother until she passed away two weeks ago. Authorities are not clear on the motive at this time.

A Delaware man has been arrested for driving under the influence after he passed out in the drive-thru lane at a McDonald's in Dover over the weekend. It happened around 1 a.m. Saturday at the McDonald's restaurant at 915 South DuPont Highway in Dover, DE. Police were called to the scene of a driver passed out in the drive-thru lane. 21-year-old Octavio Lopez-Hernandez of Dover was arrested and taken into custody without incident. This is his third DUI offense. He is being held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of a $5,000 cash bond.

A 5-year-old Bucks County boy who was found unconscious with his pet dog pulling on his scarf while playing in the snow has died. 5-year-old John Bruno of Warrington, PA, passed away Saturday evening at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. It happened on Wednesday on the 1900 block of Palomino Drive in the Palomino Farms development around 4:30 p.m. The boy was playing in the backyard with the 18-month-old hound. The mother looked up and saw the boy face down in the snow and the dog pulling on the scarf. She rushed outside and her son was unresponsive and unconscious. She brought him inside and called 911. He was transported to Doylestown Hospital and then transferred to CHOP. The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office will release the official cause of death. Warrington police are working with the Philadelphia ME on the case. There is a GoFundMe account set up to help the family with funeral costs. https://www.gofundme.com/john-brunos-memorial-fund
