Delco Hospital Nurses On Strike; New TSA Pat Downs; Teen Injured, Man Killed In SW Philly Crash

Around 400 nurses and other medical staff are now on strike at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill. Dozens of the nurses and staff protested outside of the hospital on Sunday. For months now the union has been in contract negotiations with the hospital to hopefully increase staff levels to no avail. Congressman Bob Brady and Upper Darby Mayor Thomas MiCozzie showed up at the protest on Sunday to show their support for workers on strike. As they move into the second day of the strike, officials say that there is still hope they can reach a deal soon.

TSA has announced that they are now implementing more involved pat downs at their security check points. The new pat downs come after the Department of Homeland Security ran a study that found some TSA agents were not able to detect weapons concealed on a person during basic pat downs. The TSA originally had five procedures to perform a pat down, now after the new study they only have one which takes longer. The TSA stated they believe it will not slow things down at the airports.

A teenage boy has been injured and a man has been killed after a shooting occurred in Southwest Philadelphia. The shooting took place at around 2:30 pm on Sunday on the 8100 block of Lyons Avenue. Police arrived on the scene to find a white car that had been shot up and damaged, upon further investigation they found a man in his 20's and a 14-year-old boy in the car. The 20-year-old man was shot under his left arm and was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. The 14-year-old boy was rushed to the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the face. Police believe that they were trying to drive away from the shooting, lost control of the car and slammed into a pole. Police are still searching for the suspect(s) responsible for the shooting.
