Officer Mishandles Thousands; Reward For Cemetery Suspects At $51K; Man Accused Of Killing Aunt

A Pennsylvania Police Officer has now been charged with mishandling tens of thousands of dollars in local firefighter funds. 33-year-old Southampton Police Officer Brian Walters is accused of misusing $51,000 that belonged to the Feasterville Volunteer Firefighters Relief Association. Officials say that Walters made improper loans to himself as well as five others while serving as the association's vice president, treasurer and secretary. Walters is also accused of falsifying documents to look like transactions, as well as to show state auditors that the loans were legitimate. Walters reportedly wrote himself seven unauthorized checks ranging from $1,000 to $15,000. The money was reportedly used to finance two weddings, to purchase a Wave Runner, a down payment on a house, pay off credit card debt, tuition bills, and rent. Walters has been charged with theft by failing to make required disposition of funds as well as many other related charges. A preliminary hearing for Walters is set for March 7th.

Various donors across the city have raised reward money to find those who vandalized the Jewish Cemetery in Philadelphia this past weekend. The Mizel Family Foundation and the Anti-Defamation League are offering $10,000, Councilman Allan Domb is offering $12,000, Mayor Jim Kenney's Office is offering $15,000, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 is offering $3,000 for the arrest only, and an anonymous donor is offering $10,000. Many volunteers showed up to the cemetery on Tuesday to help in the clean up efforts as well. Police are still continuing their investigation and are trying to determine whether the vandalism was part of a hate crime or a targeted attack.

Philadelphia Police have now arrested a man who is accused of shooting and killing his aunt in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia. 26-year-old Andrew Cruttenden was placed into custody on Tuesday at around 4:30 pm on the 2200 block of North Colorado Street. Officials say that Cruttenden robbed and shot 57-year-old Virginia Cruttenden in her home on the 3200 block of Mercer Street this past Friday. Cruttenden was able to steal multiple electronic items from his aunt's house. She was found dead in her home on Friday afternoon by her son. It is still unclear exactly what time the attack took place and how long she had been dead before she was found by her son.
