Man Breaks Baby's Skull and Ribs; Mumps at Penn State Ahead of THON; Delco Woman Sentenced 5-10years

A Montgomery County father is now behind bars accused of breaking the skull and ribs of a 24-day-old baby. 34-year-old Luis Bonanno of Harleysville, PA, is charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and other offenses. The baby's mother had brought the child to an area hospital because of breathing problems. She was transferred to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where doctor's discovered the fractured skull and ribs. Towamencin Township Police discovered that Bonanno had been holding the infant to his chest with arms crossed in an effort to relieve gas. His wife told him to stop but he didn't let go. He may have been using heroin on the day in question. Bonanno is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Penn State's annual student run fundraiser and 48-hour dance marathon THON is set for this upcoming weekend. Thousands of students participate inside the Bryan Jordan Center on campus. The funds raised help to fight childhood cancer. This year, Penn State students are also battling an infection of their own. There have been three confirmed cases of the Mumps so far on campus. Those individuals are being kept in isolation. The highly contagious virus is characterized by swollen glands below the ear and along the jawline. Anyone with symptoms of the Mumps is asked to stay away from THON activities this weekend. The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday.

A 23-year-old Delaware County woman was sentenced today after pleading guilty to the straw purchase of weapons. Erika Kulp of Aldan pled guilty to a firearms sale violation in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas. Kulp bought two guns for her boyfriend who is not allowed to possess a gun. She was sentenced to 5-10 years in prison. The court invoked the Officer Brad Fox law which calls for a mandatory minimum 5 year sentence for straw purchases. Fox was shot and killed in the line of duty in Plymouth Meeting in 2012 while chasing a suspect who got a gun from a straw purchaser.
