Man Charged In Montco Death; Plea For Closing Section of N. Wildwood; Philly Police Tattoo Policy

A Collegeville man has now been charged in a deadly ATV crash that happened in Montgomery County. The crash happened Christmas Eve on Greenwood Avenue in Upper Providence Township at around 2:35 am. 32-year-old Steven E. Gismonde has been charged with the death of 21-year-old Sydney Hunter Stone. Gismonde and Stone were riding on the ATV when they failed to stop at a stop sign, and T-boned a car throwing both Gismonde and Stone from the ATV. They were both taken to the hospital, where Stone later died from her injuries. Gismonde reportedly had a blood alcohol level of .135%. Gismonde has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle, DUI, and other related offenses.

Relatives of three people who died at a section of a North Wildwood beach, are now begging a New Jersey Judge to permanently close the beach. In 2012, Horsham, PA resident Brad Smith and his 7-year-old daughter were walking in ankle deep water when the sand gave way underneath them, plunging them into the swirling waters in the inlet. A passer-by was able to save his 7-year-old daughter, but Smith drowned before they could reach him. In 2009, Jamila Watkins and Shayne Hart also died from the unstable sand in the beach. North Wildwood and New Jersey State have stated that the deaths were due to natural conditions that the government has no obligation to fix. Judge Julio Mendez, who is the judge assigned to the case, said that he will issue a ruling over the next few weeks.

Philadelphia Police officials say they are creating a policy that would ban certain visible tattoos, and other forms of body art, while officers are on-duty. Lt. John Stanford stated that the department is reviewing other policies used in other law enforcement agencies, and that there is not a set time of when and if the policy will be put into effect. The proposal would still need to run by the Mayor's office for approval, and then be agreed on by the police union.
