Delaware River Bridge Remains Closed; Mike Pence Visits Philly Saturday; Video Of SUV Thief Release

Pennsylvania Turnpike officials have now stated that the Delaware River Bridge, which connects the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Turnpikes, will need to be closed for another 2 months while crews make mandatory repairs. Crews found a stress fracture in one of the beams under the bridge last week, which caused the bridge to shut down. Officials stated that workers are still trying to figure out the cause of the stress fracture, but they say the work that needs to be done should be finished by April, if all goes smoothly. Turnpike engineers stated that they plan to jack up the bridge and make a permanent fix, while checking for any more fractures in the structure.

Vice President Mike Pence will be visiting Philadelphia this weekend. The vice president will be appearing at the Congress Hall in Independence Mall this Saturday at noon. Pence is speaking with members of the Philadelphia chapter of the Federalist Society. A spokesperson of the society stated that Pence will be talking with them about President Trump's Supreme Court nominee, as well as the role of the courts and the Constitution. The Federalist Society is an organization comprised of conservatives and libertarians who are interested in the separation of government powers and the current legal order. There are also protests and demonstrations planned for Saturday in the city, especially around Independence Mall where security will be heightened. SEPTA officials urge those coming into the city to use the Broad Street and Market-Frankford lines for transportation.

Philadelphia Police have now released a video of a man who stole a SUV with a baby in it on Thursday evening. Police say that the mother of the child, ran into the laundromat where she works to grab her child a toy. That is when the suspect jumped in the running car and drove off. Around 5 minutes later, the child and the car seat where dropped off unharmed at 9th and Emily streets. The suspect got away in the vehicle. The vehicle is described as a 2014 Toyota RAV 4, with license plate number JMT-4312. Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia Police.
