Large Sink Hole in Glenside; Chestnut Hill Attack Arrest; Philadelphia Sanctuary City Status

Residents in Montgomery County awoke early this morning to a massive sink hole in their front yards. It happened around dawn in front of two homes on the 700 block of Brooke Road in Glenside, Cheltenham Township. The hole stretched from part of the road straight across to the homes' foundations and took up half of each front yard on either side. An entire tree was swallowed up and a white pickup truck that was parked in the driveway was dangling over the edge. The residents of the two homes were evacuated safely and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the sink hole was a burst water main. Water department officials were on the scene to shut off the water and fix the six-inch main. They'll also begin the work to stabilize the hole. Aqua says that 60-65 customers are without water. Once water is restored a Boil Water Advisory will be in effect until at least January 28th or further notice. That includes water used for drinking, food prep, washing dishes, and brushing teeth. Philadelphia police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a home invasion and sexual assault in Chestnut Hill this past weekend. 20-year-old James Bradley has been charged with two counts of Robbery, Unlawful Restraint, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, False Imprisonment, Theft-Unlawful Taking, and Theft-Receiving Stolen Property, and one count each of Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, Burglary, Sexual Assault, Criminal Trespass, Indecent Exposure, Indecent Assault, and related offenses. The incident happened at 4:25 a.m. on Saturday on the unit block of East Chestnut Hill Avenue. Bradley is accused of entering the victims' bedroom with a handgun and forcing the wife to perform a sex act while the husband watched. He put the gun down at one point and the woman grabbed it and tried to shoot but the gun did not fire. Bradley fled and stole their phones, wallets, keys, and car. Police were able to track him down. He was taken into custody on Tuesday as a person-of-interest for questioning.

President Trump signed executive actions on Wednesday focused on tightening the nation's immigration policies. White House spokesman Sean Spicer announced that the wall or rather "large physical barrier" was included and will be started as soon as possible. Trump said that it would be paid for upfront by the U.S. and asserted that it will be reimbursed by Mexico. Today's signed actions also focused on sanctuary cities by blocking federal grant money from locales that do not cooperate with federal immigration officials. Philadelphia is a sanctuary city. Mayor Kenney's policy is to not cooperate with the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) unless there is a warrant or the person in custody is accused of a violent felony. He believes that the policy helps immigrant community/police relations when illegal immigrants, without fear of deportation, are more likely to come forward to report crime and cooperate with investigations. The City of Philadelphia received $342.7 million in federal grant money in 2015. Today's executive action is not clear on how much or what kind of federal grants would be withheld from sanctuary cities like Philadelphia. Lauren Hitt, Kenney's spokeswoman, said "we have no plans to change our immigration policy at this time."
