Mural Falls Off Center City Hospital; Man Killed By Blowing Sign; Man Dies After Bar Fight

Parts of a multistory mural fell off the wall of a Center City hospital this morning and landed on two parked cars in the parking lot below. It happened around 10:30 a.m. at the south wall of Hahnemann University Hospital's Feinstein building, near Broad and Race Streets. The hospital released a statement and attributed the damage â€œto strong winds in the region.â€ The mural was dedicated in 2007 as part of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. It is called "Independence Starts Here" and honors people who live with disabilities. A Mural Arts spokeswoman said this is the first time a mural installed using woven panels has ever fallen down. They have created over 4,000 murals over the past 30 years. Engineers are assessing the situation. No one was injured in the incident.

Philadelphia police say that a man was killed when a sign was blown off a wall this afternoon. It happened just before 1 p.m. on the 4300 block of Old York Road. The 60-year-old man was struck by the sign at an auto sales car lot. It was ripped off the wall by gusty winds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The man's identity has not been released.

A man died overnight after a bar fight in West Philadelphia. It happened early Monday morning at Watutsi Bar located at 4600 Walnut Street. The 35-year-old man was involved in an altercation with another man inside the bar about 1:15 a.m. His friends drove him to a relative's home at 26th and Emily Streets in South Philadelphia. That's when they discovered he was bleeding from the left chest. He was rushed to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center where he died. It was initially thought the man had been shot, but it was later determined he had been stabbed. Police believe it happened somewhere near the bar at 46th and Walnut streets. His identity is being withheld pending family notification. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
