Bar Manager Shot by Security Guard; All Clear After Temple U. Threat; Rittenhouse Sitting Ban Over

An argument between a bar manager and a security guard turned deadly in Germantown as the guard shot and killed the manager. It happened around 11 p.m. Monday night at Sharon's Little Spot on the corner of Boyer and East Woodlawn streets. The 44-year-old manager and 28-year-old bouncer got into an argument in the back room. The argument turned physical and the manager may have attacked the guard. The guard pulled his weapon and fired three times hitting him twice in the torso and once in the leg. The manager was conscious when police arrived but died a short time later at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Police questioned the one bar patron and bartender. The security guard stayed at the scene and waited for police. He was taken into custody for questioning. No word on what started the argument. No charges have been filed.

UPDATE: 1/17 7pm The bouncer, 28-year-old Edward Morgan, of the 2000 block of Mercy Street in South Philadelphia, has been charged with murder and related offenses. The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Christopher Johnson of the 7000 block of Rugby Street in West Oak Lane. Homicide Capt. James Clark said two had a history of "bad blood" before the shooting.

Philadelphia Police have given the all clear after a suspicious package was found at Temple University this morning. It was found by the loading dock of the College of Engineering at 12th and Norris Streets around 9 a.m. by maintenance staff. Temple University and Philadelphia police were notified and the bomb squad responded. It was described as a 'thick belt with wires coming out of it.' The package was detonated as a precaution. Around 300 students were evacuated and police did a sweep of the engineering building. The investigation is ongoing. Watch video of the bomb disposal below.

The ban on sitting on the balustrade walls in Rittenhouse Square is over. The signs forbidding the activity came down today. The signs, which simply stated 'No Sitting on Wall' appeared last Thursday. The Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Friends of Rittenhouse Square and the Philadelphia Police Department, decided on the new rule in the public park to discourage vandalism and marijuana smoking. There was dissent from the public who use the park and sit on those walls peacefully, especially in the warmer months, to eat lunch, read, or to enjoy the outdoors. A 'sit-in' rally was planned for lunchtime today, but the signs had already been removed. It turned into a celebration. Mayor Kenny weighed in on the matter over the weekend via Twitter saying 'sit where you want.'
