A Bucks County High School is getting complaints about some of the content in a math worksheet assigned to algebra students for homework. A teacher at Pennridge High School in Perkasie, PA, downloaded the worksheet from a website that allows teachers to share educational resources. The assignment mixes algebraic math equations with word problems about African American poet Maya Angelou. Two of the questions in particular have caused concern because they "contained adult content without a proper context." The first question reads, "Angelou was sexually abused by her mother's _______ at age 8, which shaped her career choices and motivation for writing." The possible answers are boyfriend, brother, or father. Solving the equation gives you a) boyfriend. The second question reads, "Trying to support her son as a single mother, she worked as a pimp, prostitute and ______." The choices are bookie, drug dealer, or night club dancer. The answer is c. Maya Angelou's autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, published in 1969, describes much of her abuse and struggles growing up. The book is on many high school reading lists, but this assignment is not in Pennridge's regular curriculum. School officials released a statement:

"We have received a number of complaints from parents and members of the community regarding a recent high school math homework assignment which contained adult content without a proper context. The homework worksheet in question was downloaded from a website that allows teachers around the world to share educational resources. It is not part of our approved curriculum. We apologize to anyone who was offended by the content of the assignment and have taken steps to avoid such occurrences in the future."

Two U.S. postal workers have been charged with using their positions to commit bribery and facilitate marijuana trafficking. They were among nine people indicted as part of large distribution ring in West Philadelphia. Steven Williams and Felicia Charleston are accused of bribing a public official and distributing at least 100 kilograms of marijuana. They worked as postal carriers out of the West Market Post Office in Philadelphia and would deliver marijuana packages to drug organizations in West Philly. They each face life in prison and multi-million dollar fines if convicted.

The body of a 29-year-old Clementon, NJ, veteran who went missing last month was found on Friday by search teams at a local lake. Lance James went missing on December 2nd, 2016, after getting into a fight at the Hide-A-Way Tavern in Clementon. He began to walk home. Surveillance footage showed him nearing his apartment about a block away, but he never got there. Teams searched the area, including bodies of water, but some were frozen at the time. Today, the marine unit of the Burlington County K-9 Search & Rescue went back to Bottom Lake to search again since it was thawed and made the discovery around noon. The circumstances around James' death are unknown. An autopsy will be conducted on Saturday. James served two tours in the Middle East and suffered symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder upon his return.
