Philadelphia Police have now arrested a suspected drunk driver who crashed into a pickup truck on Wednesday night. The crash happened at 2nd and West Berks Street in Kensington at around 11:30 pm. Police say that the driver was speeding when the truck crashed into a car. When police arrived on scene they found the truck and the car heavily damaged, as well as several other parked cars with damages. Both of the drivers were taken to an area hospital. There is no word on their conditions. The driver of the truck was taken into police custody on suspicion of a DUI.

Starting on January 1st, Philadelphia city officials will be putting new smoking provisions into effect to help reduce children being exposed to tobacco products. The new provisions will include tobacco free zones that would prohibit retailers who sell tobacco products to be 500 feet from any K-12 school. The tobacco retailer permit fee will also increase to $300, which will help cover the cost of enhancing enforcement on prohibiting sales to children. Retailers will also receive a 12-month tobacco sale suspension if they are caught selling to underage customers 3 times in 2 years. The new provisions will also place a density cap on tobacco retailers, which will go into effect on February 15th, 2017.

SEPTA officials have stated that they are expanding their regional rail service for New Years Eve. The regional rail services will be operating on a Saturday schedule during New Years Eve. Travelers will also be able to take advantage of a special late night service from Center City stations. See septa.org for more information. The PATCO high speed line will also be offering free rides on New Years Eve from Saturday at 8 pm to Sunday at 4 am. Although the PATCO lines will be forgoing $20,000 in fares, they say it'll offer an alternative method to those who drink too much.

The Sixers play tonight against the Jazz at 9.

Weather

Tonight, Partly Cloudy and a low of 33 degrees in Center City.
