Missing Autistic Teen from W. Philly; NJ Bill to Allow Christie Book Deal; Student Arrested with Gun

Philadelphia Police are asking the public's help in finding a 16-year-old boy with autism that went missing on Wednesday. Kalis Adams was reported missing from his home on the 6200 block of Carpenter Street in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood yesterday at 3:15 p.m. He is described as 5â€™4â€³, 130 pounds, with brown eyes, a medium brown complexion and short curly black hair. Kalis was last seen wearing a blue blazer, white long sleeved shirt, maroon tie, khaki pants, and black shoes. He is known to frequent the areas of 33rd Street and Ridge Avenue, 58th and Market Streets, as well as Cobbs Creek Recreational Center located at 280 Cobbs Creek Parkway. Kalis also likes to ride the Market-Frankford Line. The teen has gone missing on several occasions in the past few years. He went missing in late November 2014 and again in early November 2015. Both instances were reported in the news. He was found safe each time. Anyone with information on Kalis' whereabouts should contact Southwest Detective Division at 215-686-3183 / 3184 or call 911.

A bill being considered in New Jersey State legislature today that includes pay raises for legislative aides, judges and other state workers is being called controversial because of its ties to the state ethics law. The additional measure would change the law prohibiting certain executive branch officers from receiving other forms of compensation beyond their government pay (except investment or rental income). It would make an exception for income from books or published works. This would pave the way for Governor Chris Christie to profit from a book deal while still in office. It has already passed a number of committees. The bill has bipartisan support. Some detractors say the governor shouldn't be able to profit from the position while still in office and that writing a book would detract from the job.

A Philadelphia high school student was taken into custody today by police after a handgun was found in his backpack. The gun was found when the student arrived at Randolph Career Academy in Hunting Park this morning. The student went through the normal scanning process upon arrival and school police discovered the weapon. It was immediately secured and he was detained. The school was placed on lock down until a search for any other weapons was complete. The teen is being questioned by police.
