Code Blue Issued For Philly, Police Hunt For Murder Suspects, Eight Arrested In Nickel Scheme

A Code Blue has now been issued for Philadelphia, Montgomery and Bucks counties due to the frigid temperatures that we will be facing over the next couple of days. Philadelphia's Office of Homeless Services has declared its second code blue of the winter season, which is effective Wednesday at 6 pm through next Wednesday, December 21st at 6 am. The code blue will help get many homeless off the streets during the extreme cold, and to prevent any weather related deaths. City officials have stated that if anyone sees a person or persons living on the street during the code blue to call Homeless Outreach (215-232-1984), and they will help find a shelter for the victim. Also remember, during a code blue it is a violation to leave your pet outside overnight. That could result in a $500 fine.

Philadelphia Police are now on the hunt for two suspects that committed an execution style murder in the Frankford section of Philadelphia early Wednesday morning. The incident took place on the 1400 block of Adams Avenue at around 12:30 am. Police responded to many calls and arrived on the scene to find a 27-year-old man dead in a vacant lot. Police say that more than 2 dozen shots were fired in close range at the victim, hitting him in the face, chest, torso, and legs. Medics arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Police are currently questioning several witnesses and are searching for the suspects responsible.

Eight people have now been arrested and accused in participating in a scheme to steal over 55 tons of nickel, valued at around $1 million, from a Chester County factory. Most of the suspects were employees of the steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal in South Coatesville. Investigators stated that the theft was uncovered when a security officer saw one of the suspects putting nickel briquettes into a bucket and then removing them. The suspects would move the nickel from inside of the factory. Once they got the nickel out of the factory, they would sell it to a recycling plant in Philly for $4 per pound, or half the going rate. Officials say that 110,704 pounds were stolen, causing $911,093.92 in losses. The thefts occurred over several years.
