Wawa Robbery In Rhawnhurst, PA Gas Tax Increase, Deadly Shooting In North Philly

Philadelphia Police are now searching for a woman who held up a Wawa in Rhawnhurst. The incident took place Sunday at the Wawa on the 8000 block of Roosevelt Boulevard at around 10 am. Police say that the woman walked up to the register, and told the cashier to hand over the money or she would start to shoot. The cashier handed over the money and the woman fled the scene. Luckily no one was injured in the robbery, and police are still searching for the suspect.

Pennsylvania gas tax will increase for the third time in four years starting after the new year. PennDOT spokesman Rich Kirkpatrick stated that this is the final phase of the three step plan for wholesale gas tax increases. The first took place in January 2014, the second a year later, and now starting on January 1st the gas tax will increase 8 cents per gallon. Kirkpatrick also stated that the increase could add an additional billion dollars to the road and bridge system in PA, as well as adding improvements to 422 and 322. Pennsylvania's tax on wholesale gas will hit 58 cents per gallon.

Philadelphia Police are currently investigating a deadly shooting that took place in North Philadelphia on Tuesday. The shooting took place on the 3000 block of North Orkney Street at around 12:30 pm. Police arrived on the scene to find a 49-year-old man shot in the lower back and hip. The man was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Potter-Thomas School was put on lock down for a half hour just as a precaution. Police are still searching for the suspect and are investigating into the motive behind the shooting.
