2-Year-Old Boy Dies In Kensington, Montco Pediatrician Arrested, UPenn Sanctuary Pledge

Philadelphia Police are now investigating the suspicious death of a 2-year-old boy in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Police responded to a call just before 12 a.m. on Wednesday of an apparent unresponsive 2-year-old boy on the 600 block of East Clementine Street. When police arrived on scene they found a male and female holding the boy outside of their home. The boy was then rushed to the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 2:10 am. So far police have not made any arrests, and the cause of death has not yet been determined. The boy has been identified as 2-year-old Zyair Worrell.

UPDATE: The boy's death has now been ruled a homicide. The medical examiner discovered a large laceration to his liver, bruising on his chest wall, a bruised ear and an abrasion over his eye. The child also tested positive for THC, the active chemical in marijuana.

Montgomery County Police have now arrested a pediatrician for having possession of sexually explicit pictures of children. 48-year-old David Kennedy, a pediatrician at Personal Care Pediatrics in Montgomery County, was arrested on Monday. The photos were found after Kennedy had given one of the nurses an iPhone to take after hours calls during the Thanksgiving Holiday. The nurse found the pictures on the phone and immediately contacted the authorities. Kennedy was charged with 5 counts of Sexual Abuse of Children as well as Criminal use of a Communications Facility. Kennedy has failed to make his bail, and is now in Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

The University of Pennsylvania has stated they are renewing their pledge to keep their University as a sanctuary for students illegally in the country. UPenn's President Amy Gutman sent out a letter on Wednesday that reinforces the sanctuary policies at Penn, as well as many other practicing universities throughout the country. Gutman stated that her staff "will do all that we can to ensure their continued safety and success" at the University. This comes about after President-Elect Donald Trump (who is a Penn Alumni) pleged to launch a "deportation force" and ban temporary status to students illegally in the U.S.
