Holiday Travel by Plane, Train, Auto; Trump names Haley UN Ambassador; PSPCA Found Dog in Bag

Today's one of the busiest travel days of the year and here in Philadelphia that means hundreds of thousands will be coming and going for the holiday weekend. The TSA recommends that travelers arrive at Philadelphia International Airport two hours earlier for domestic flights as almost 50,000 people will be flying this weekend. 30th Street Station was especially busy. Most Amtrak trains were sold out today. A quarter-million people will ride on the Northeast Corridor. The roads will be most congested. AAA estimates that 569,000 Philadelphia-area residents will be traveling over 50 miles this weekend, most will be by vehicle. The key to today's travel for all is just patience. We'll all eventually get there.

President-elect Donald Trump has selected the Republican Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley to be the ambassador to the United Nations. 44-year-old Haley accepted the offer this morning. She is the first woman to join Trump's administration so far. Haley is the daughter of immigrants from India and only the second Indian-American governor in the United States. During the campaign, Haley criticized Trump's position on banning muslims and for not disavowing radical right wing supporters. While governor, she is known for removing the Confederate flag from the South Carolina Capitol grounds. Haley will need to be confirmed by the Senate. She said, "Our country faces enormous challenges here at home and internationally, and I am honored that the President-elect has asked me to join his team and serve the country we love as the next Ambassador to the United Nations."

The Pennsylvania SPCA is looking for the public's help in finding the person or people responsible for dumping an emaciated dog in a trash bag in the park. A good Samaritan was walking in the Wissahickon Valley Park in Northwest Philadelphia on Tuesday morning when she saw the black trash bag. The dog's head was just sticking out. She called the PSPCA who came and took the dog to their shelter for medical treatment. The dog is a tan pit bull with pink nose and white stripe on it's head.
