Rt.1 Reopens in DE, Chickens on Road; Fire in North Philly; Camden Field Vandalized

Rt. 1 in Delaware reopened late this morning after an early morning accident involving two tractor trailers that spilled chickens onto the roadway. It happened just before 4 a.m. in the southbound lanes near the Smyrna exit 119. One of the trucks overturned and dumped its load of live chickens over a stretch of the highway. The southbound lanes were closed for several hours as crews worked to cleanup the wreck and round up the chickens. The highway reopened around 10:15 a.m.

Fire broke out overnight in two vacant homes in North Philadelphia. It started in one home just before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday on Broad Street near West Pike before spreading to another vacant home. Firefighters evacuated nearby houses in case the flames kept spreading. The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. Residents were allowed back in around 5:30 this morning. No word on the cause of the fire.

Camden Police are investigating after vandals destroyed a field used by local youth sports leagues to play and practice. The Camden Raiders little league football team, 80 kids ages 5-14, went to practice on Tuesday night to find the field in the Fairview section of Camden cut and dug up with tire tracks from a vehicle. The ruts would make it too dangerous to play on. Police are looking at surveillance from the Malandra Hall Community Center next door. They believe it may have happened over the weekend. The team will have to travel to their opponent this weekend instead of playing the scheduled home game.

Weather
This afternoon, partly cloudy, temperatures in the mid/upper 60's in Center City
