NJ Gas Tax Raise Passes Legislature; Toddler Tells Police 'Mommy Dead' in OD; Joe Biden in Bucks Co.

The New Jersey Senate and General Assembly have approved a package of bills that includes a 23 cent per gallon raise in the state's gas tax. The bill now goes to Governor Chris Christie. The tax increase will help replenish the Transportation Trust Fund. The package also reduces sales and estate taxes and offers tax credits to veterans and low-income residents. New Jersey's gas tax was second lowest in the country, just above Alaska. It would be moved from 14.5 cents to 37.5 cents, or about the 7th highest. Pennsylvania has the highest gas taxes at 50.4 cents while Delaware is #34 at just 23 cents. The increase wouldn't go into effect until at least November 1st.

A Pennsylvania woman was revived from a heroin overdose after her toddler led police to her saying, "Mommy dead." 39-year-old Constance McCausland of Johnstown was found unconscious in her home on Wednesday afternoon. Police were able to revive her. A neighbor called authorities because the child was seen playing unattended in a parked car and honking the horn for about 20 minutes. When officers arrived the child pointed at the home and told them, "Mommy dead." The mother was found inside at the kitchen table surrounded by empty heroin packets. McClausland has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia. She remains in jail in lieu of 10 percent of $50,000 bail. The child is in the care of another family member.

Vice President Joe Biden campaigned today for Hillary Clinton in suburban Philadelphia. He spoke to students at Bucks County Community College - Lower Bucks Campus in Bristol, PA, around noon on Friday. In addition to making his case for Clinton, the vice president is encouraging young people to register to vote. The deadline in Pennsylvania is Tuesday, October 11th.
