| Arrest in Gabby Carter Killing; Comcast Buys Ed Snider's Stake; Philly Free Streets |

There has been an arrest in connection with the shooting death of 8-year-old Gabby Carter. 18-year-old Tyhan Brown has been arrested at a relative's home in Tennessee, by U.S. Marshals. Brown has been charged with first degree murder. Little Gabby was shot by a stray bullet while riding her bike across the street from her house in Camden back on August 24th. Two days later, on August 26th, Gabby died. Investigators say the gunfire broke out when several men opened fire on an intended target, and a stray bullet struck Gabby. On September 15, 2016, Brown's mother, Shakia Land, was charged with hindering the homicide investigation. Similar charges were filed against Natasha Gerald earlier this week. Both women are charged with providing false alibi information to homicide detectives. While Gabby was in the hospital, her mother was in the same hospital, pregnant with her younger brother. She gave birth after Gabby passed, and named the boy King Gabriel, after his late sister.
Comcast Corporation has reached an agreement to purchase Ed Snider’s 24 percent stake in Comcast Spectacor. Comcast acquired majority ownership in Comcast Spectacor in 1996, although Snider maintained a minority stake in the company. Snider, the founder of the Philadelphia Flyers and Chairman of Comcast Spectacor, died in April after a long battle with cancer. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Once it closes, which is expected to occur next month, Comcast will own 100 percent of the company that owns the Philadelphia Flyers the Wells Fargo Center and the Spectra businesses. Spectra operates venue management, food services and hospitality, and ticketing and Fan Engagement divisions. The transaction related to the Flyers is subject to the approval of the National Hockey League, which is expected to consider the matter at its scheduled Board of Governors’ meeting tomorrow in New York.
Philadelphia will be holding its first-ever Philly Free Streets event on Saturday. It’s billed as the city’s people-powered initiative, creating ten car-free miles for people to walk, bike and play. It’ll also mean street closures for drivers along the route, from 8am to 1pm. Look for South Street to be closed in Center City, from Front Street to the South Street Bridge over the Schuylkill. The route will continue onto the Schuylkill River Trail, into streets in W. Fairmount Park, and then MLK Drive to the Falls Bridge. During the event, Mayor Jim Kenney will lead a mile-long power walk and radio personality Patty Jackson will walk a mile without the use of a cane for the first time since her stroke. "Philly Free Streets encourages Philadelphians to be active and get moving by offering more than 7,500 prizes and discounts for participation," said Deputy Managing Director Clarena Tolson. "Philly Free Street attendees will have a chance to earn rewards by completing challenges, participating in activities, or exploring the City through our scavenger hunt." Organizations will provide a variety of fun and exciting activities, including boot camps, bike riding lessons, group rides and runs, music performances, mural mazes, and interactive educational games. Look for discounts and promotional deals from various nutrition, health, and fitness companies as rewards for competing fitness challenges by downloading the Vea Fitness app at Philly Free Streets. You can also play using a paper Prize Passport available at any information station along the route.
