| Todd Rundgren to Notre Dame for Residency; Woman Planned Leaving Children for ISIS; Acosta Staying |

Todd Rundgren, a 1966 graduate of Upper Darby High School and world-renowned singer, songwriter, and producer, will become an artist-in-residence for the University of Notre Dame's Department of Film, Television, and Theatre according to Notre Dame News. During his residency, from Sept. 22 to Oct. 1, Rundgren will teach several classes, work with students and teachers in the South Bend/Mishawaka community, and perform with student bands at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on Oct. 1. Rundgren will also attend the Notre Dame-Duke football game on Sept. 24 and be the subject of a “First Time Fans†documentary being produced by Fighting Irish Media. “Todd Rundgren’s body of work epitomizes to our students, specifically in Arts and Letters, what we want them to become: artistic game changers on a global level,†said Ted Mandell, associate professional specialist in FTT. Rundgren has never been to Notre Dame before, and said he’s looking forward to it. “It’s a chance to hang out with really smart young kids, and find out what they’re thinking,†he said.
A North Philadelphia woman has pleaded guilty to plotting to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State group. Not only that, she was willing to leave her two kids and meet the ISIS fighter she married online. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Keonna Thomas, 32, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization. Defense lawyer Kathleen Gaughan said her client accepted responsibility and "looks forward to putting this behind her, and being a mother to her two young children." Thomas was arrested in April at a public housing development, days before her planned trip overseas. FOX 29 News talked to a local terrorism expert who said this is a major example of how homegrown terrorists represent the largest threat to our national security. Former intelligence officer Jack Tomarchio also said a person who’s not a member of any group, doesn’t tell anybody or post about it on social media and decides to go operational is the most impossible to find. Authorities alleged Thomas called herself Fatayat Al Khilafah and "YoungLioness" while trying to raise money online, and once told an Islamic State group fighter that taking part in a martyrdom operation "would be amazing." Thomas faces 15 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 17.
State Rep. Leslie Acosta vowed Tuesday to remain in office and to continue her reelection campaign, even as leaders of her party - including Gov. Wolf - called for her to resign over the revelation last week that she secretly had pleaded guilty to federal felony charges earlier this year. What's more, the North Philadelphia Democrat intends to launch a legal bid to keep her seat even after she is sentenced next year, her lawyer said. "It is Rep. Acosta's intention to let the legal process run its course so she can continue to serve her constituency for as long as possible," attorney Christopher Warren said. "If the courts ultimately determine that she is unfit to hold public office, she will, of course, abide by that decision." His comments came on a day when Wolf added his voice to the chorus of Democrats calling publicly and privately for Acosta to step aside.
