NY/NJ Bomb Suspect in Custody; Bombs Found in Elizabeth, NJ; 180 Arrested for Drinking in Newark

The suspect wanted in the New York and New Jersey bombings over the weekend is now in custody. A Linden, NJ, Police officer responded to a call of a hooded vagrant sleeping in the entrance to a bar on Monday. When the officer roused the man he recognized him as 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami from the FBI bulletin released earlier. Rahami drew a gun and shot the officer before running. He was eventually shot in the leg by police and taken into custody. Rahami is a naturalized U.S. citizen from Afghanistan. He live in Elizabeth, NJ. He has been tied to a pipe bomb Saturday morning in Seaside Park before a 5k race and a pressure-cooker bomb Saturday night in New York's Chelsea section.

Five pipe bombs were found in a backpack in a trash can on Sunday night near the train station in Elizabeth, NJ. Two homeless men made the discovery at around 8:30 pm. When they picked up the bag they saw wires and pipe sticking out. They immediately dropped the bag and reported it to the police around the corner. The Union County Bomb Squad. One of the bombs exploded as they were trying to remove and disarm it. New Jersey Transit and Amtrak services were suspended overnight. No one was injured. NY/NJ Bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami is from Elizabeth. Authorities have not publically tied him to the bombs found at the train station at this time.

Newark, DE, police arrested 180 people for underage drinking at an unsanctioned fraternity party which included Univerisity of Delaware students. Police on routine patrol noticed the party on the 300 block of East Park Place around 4 p.m. Saturday. After observing a large number of people in and around the small brick home, many who appeared under 21, officers obtained a search warrant. 180 people, including two juveniles, were arrested for underage consumption of alcohol. One person was found unresponsive and transported to Christiana Emergency Room and treated for alcohol overdose. The residents of the home will face additional charges. They are members of the unsanctioned fraternity APES. If any of those arrested are students at the University of Delaware they will be referred to the UD Office of Student Conduct.
