A roller coaster somehow got stuck at Hersheypark, and riders had to be evacuated from the structure, marking the second time a coaster has stopped working at the park in less than a week. Hersheypark officials say The Sidewinder "experienced a stoppage" at 3:30 p.m. Monday, and workers escorted all 27 riders safely off it. They say the coaster worked as it should during a malfunction by settling at a point that allowed guests to safely exit. The ride was closed for the day and the malfunction is being investigated. The Sidewinder is a steel roller coaster that's rated as an "aggressive thrill ride" on Gersheypark's website. On Friday, the park's Fahrenheit roller coaster was briefly stuck mid-ride for about six minutes. No one was evacuated and the ride continued.

The Vineland School District doesn’t expect asbestos removal in the high school to affect the start of the school year but, just in case, they say there's a "plan B." The New Jersey Schools Development Authority said Monday they’ve given their contractor an August 31st deadline to finish the $1 million asbestos removal project. If there are setbacks, and the work is not done by the first day of School on September 6th, the district will alter the bell schedule. “We’ve discussed doing split sessions, having some students in the morning and some in the afternoon, but we don’t think it will come to that,” say district spokeswoman Gia Messore. The asbestos was discovered as the Development Authority was coming down the home stretch of a $10 million renovation to the heating and air conditioning systems in the South Building. The district plans to have facilities crews available over Labor Day Weekend to fix the damaged walls if the job isn’t already done.

A six-year-old boy was shot in Chester, Delaware County on Monday afternoon. Chester police were dispatched to the 1200 block of W. 9th Street around 4 p.m. Monday to find numerous shell casings in different locations. The victim’s mother told police her son and other children were playing in front of a house when a man began shooting in their direction. The boy was taken to the hospital and is being treated for an injury to his left index finger. Police are still investigating the shooting, anyone with information is asked to contact Chester Detective Lawrence Weigand at (610)-447-8426, or Detective Victor Heness at (610)-447-8429
