Apology Letter to Coatesville Police; Delaware Death Penalty Ruling; Deadly Hit-And-Run Atlantic Co.

The father of a man arrested after throwing a rock at a moving Coatesville police cruiser sent a letter to the police department apologizing and praised them for their professionalism. On July 18th, Eric Watson was arrested after throwing a rock at the windshield of Officer Jared Davis' police car. During the arrest, another officer suffered a broken sternum while struggling with Watson. The incident was caught on dash cam video. Eric Watson Sr. wrote a letter to the police, who asked his permission to post it to Facebook. Watson Sr. first apologizes for the injuries caused. He then praises Officer Davis for "...professionalism beyond the norm in a time when madness seem to be the order of the day..." He then thanks the department for being there for his family. The Coatesville PD wrote, "It is our hope that all involved parties see this as an opportunity to move forward in a positive direction."

The Delaware Supreme Court ruled today that the state's death penalty law is unconstitutional. The 148-page majority opinion was released on Tuesday. The decision follows a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in January that called Florida's death penalty law unconstitutional because of it's Sixth Amendment violation of the role of the jury. Delaware's law also allowed the judge in the case to sentence a person to death irregardless of the jury's recommendation. The law did not require a jury to be unanimous as well. Alabama is the only other state that allows a judge to override a jury. Delaware Governor Jack Markell said, I applaud the Supreme Courtâ€™s finding that the stateâ€™s death penalty law is unconstitutional. The state's General Assembly will have to rewrite the law if the death penalty would be reinstated.

Police in Galloway Township, Atlantic County, NJ, are looking for the driver of a SUV after a deadly hit-and-run accident last night. 27-year-old Aubrey Servis, of Little Egg Harbor, was crossing the street at White Horse Pike at 6th Avenue around 10:20 p.m. An older model silver SUV (possible 90's Tahoe or Suburban) was traveling west in the left lane and ran a red light. The SUV hit Servis and then took off. She died at the scene. The car would have front driver side damage. If you have any information call (609)652-3705 Ext 095 or (609)909-7873.
