Trump Nominated at RNC, DNC Open House Tour, Bruce Castor Deputy Attorney General

United for a night, Republicans nominated Donald Trump Tuesday night as their presidential standard-bearer, capping the billionaire businessman's stunning takeover of the GOP and propelling him into a November faceoff with Democrat Hillary Clinton. Trump's campaign hoped the formal nomination would both end the discord surging through the Republican Party and overshadow the convention's chaotic kickoff, including a plagiarism charge involving Melania Trump's address on opening night. Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions opened the nominating process with a hearty endorsement of Trump, declaring him "a warrior and a winner." There were flurries of dissent on the convention floor as state that Trump did not win recorded their votes, but he far outdistanced his primary rivals. Convention officials gave some delegates won by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich to Trump, including all 19 from the District of Columbia. A delegate from the district accused the party of trying to quiet anti-Trump dissent. This weekâ€™s four-day convention is Trumpâ€™s highest-profile opportunity to convince voters that heâ€™s better suited for the presidency than Clinton, who will be officially nominated at next weekâ€™s Democratic gathering. But the rocky start raises fresh questions about his oversight of his campaign, which gives voters a window into how a candidate might handle the pressures of the presidency.

The Democratic National Convention Committee is offering an inside look at where all the action will be taking place. The DNCC announced a community open house to allow people to tour the convention hall and learn about the DNC. The open house is set for Friday, July 22. It will run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m at the Wells Fargo Center. Those interested in attending, must RSVP. The DNC will kick off on July 25 and run through July 28.

Bruce Castor has been named Pennsylvania's First Deputy Attorney General. Meanwhile, in his current role in the AG's Office, Castor has settled a discrimination complaint filed by Kathleen Kaneâ€™s twin sister. Castor has been serving for several months effectively as Kathleen Kaneâ€™s number two, in a created position called Solicitor General. Now Castor has been named to replace Bruce Beemer as First Deputy Attorney General, a position that puts Castor in line to possibly succeed Kane, who faces trial on criminal charges next month. Castor, meanwhile, has decided to settle a labor complaint filed by Kaneâ€™s twin sister, Ellen Granahan, who heads Kaneâ€™s Child Predator Unit. An AGâ€™s Office spokesman says Castor concluded that Granahan had not been paid similarly to other attorneys at her level and with her experience. She will get a raise, back pay, money for legal fees, and nearly $29,000 for emotional distress and compensatory damages.
