Bernie Sanders Endorses Hilary Clinton; 1 Dead, 2 Shot in West Philly; Kathryn Knott Released

Bernie Sanders officially endorsed Hilary Clinton this morning at a campaign event in Portsmouth, N.H. The two stood beside one another on stage at the event intending to show Democratic unity. Sanders said, "Secretary Clinton has won the Democratic nominating process and I congratulate her for that. She will be the Democratic nominee for president. And I intend to do everything I can do make certain she will be the next President of the United States." Clinton amassed the requisite number of delegates about a month ago to become the presumptive nominee but Sanders continued to campaign hoping to influence the party's platforms at the Democratic National Convention here in Philadelphia in two weeks.

A 15-year-old boy is dead and two other teens are in the hospital after they were ambushed and shot while on the way home from a basketball league on Monday night. The three teens (ages 14, 15, and 16) had just finished playing as part of a neighborhood basketball league and were walking home around 10 p.m. near 60th Street and Baltimore Avenue. The 14-year-old was shot in the arm. The 15-year-old was shot in the face. The 16-year-old was shot in the ankle. They were all taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital. The two other teens are listed in stable condition. Police believe they were targeted. 25-year-old Kathryn Knott of Upper Southhampton, Bucks County, has been released from jail on Tuesday after serving the minimum of her 5-10 month sentence for her role in the assault of a gay couple in Center City two years ago. Knott now faces 2 years probation during which she is not allowed to enter Philadelphia expect for official legal matters. She also has $2,000 in fines. Knott chose to go to trial while her other two co-defendents, Philip Williams and Kevin Harrigan, accepted plea deals without jail time. The incident happened on September 11th, 2014 when a large group of friends passed the victims near Rittenhouse Square walking on the sidewalk. The ensuing altercation left both victims with facial injuries and one with a broken jaw wired shut. Philadelphia has since added sexual orientation as a protected class in hate crime laws.
