Video footage of a fatal police involved shooting on Tuesday morning in Baton Rouge, LA, has renewed outrage and protest over police use of force. Uniformed police officers responded to a convenience store where a man selling CD's had threatened someone with a gun. The officers approached 37-year-old Alton Sterling in the parking lot, telling him to get on the ground. He did not respond and officers forced him down. Two officers were trying to restrain him when one can be heard yelling "gun!" and then shots were fired. Sterling was shot in the chest and died at the scene. An investigation of the shooting will be led by the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. Protesters have taken to the streets across the country including right here in Philadelphia. Around 200 demonstrators marched in Center City this evening. A dozen were arrested for blocking the entrance to I-676. Watch videos of the incident below:

The Philadelphia region is under an Excessive Heat Warning through Friday and high temperatures well into the 90's can be expected through the first half of the weekend. The Heat Index will easily top 100°. The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging has activated the Heatline. Call 215-765-9040 with any questions related to the heat and staying safe. Montgomery County has also declared a Code Red Hot Weather Health Warning. Young children, the elderly, and the sick are at particular risk. Make sure you check on your neighbors. Keep hydrated and avoid heavy, outdoor activity. If you have a fan, make sure to keep a window or door open to keep the air flowing.

Over 200 former Penn State football players sent a petition to university leaders on Tuesday asking that the bronze Joe Paterno statue be returned to its place outside the stadium. The statue was removed in 2012 after Jerry Sandusky was convicted of child sexual abuse. The letter was sent to the board of trustees and Penn State President Eric Barron. They are also requesting an apology to Paterno's wife Sue.

Tonight,
Clear skies and warm, temperatures in the low 90's/upper 80's this evening in Center City
