Long Delays on SEPTA Regional Rail; 14 Fires in Camden this Weekend; Shooting in Pennypack Park

Commuters faced long delays and packed trains today on the first day back to work after SEPTA pulled one third of it's Regional Rail train cars due to a structural problem. Morning trains eventually had to skip stations on the way into Center City because they were full to capacity. Station platforms were crowded with people waiting to go home at the end of the day. SEPTA is operating on a modified Saturday schedule with trains every half hour during rush. They had to take away 120 cars which account for 13,000 rail seats. On a normal day, SEPTA can carry 65,000 passengers each way. They have beefed up service on other lines. Read about SEPTA's contigency plans here: http://septa.org/service/contingency.html. They expect it may get worse on Wednesday as more people return from vacation.

Fire officials in Camden, NJ, are looking into a rash of fires over the weekend. Over a dozen fires were set in mostly unoccupied buildings within a one mile radius in South Camden. There were four on Saturday, nine on Sunday, and one on Monday. Some have already been ruled arson by the fire marshal. Only one of the buildings was occupied at the time and one civilian was treated for smoke inhalation. The buildings were typically entered from the rear and the fires were set within a few hour span each day. Officials are trying to determine if these 14 fires are somehow linked.

Philadelphia Police are investigating a shooting in Pennypack Park in the city's Mayfair section. It happened sometime just after noon on Tuesday. Police were called to the 7400 block of Rowland Street. They discovered a 21-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was transported to Aria Health/Torresdale and is in stable condition. Police are still investigating. There have been no arrests and a motive is not yet known.
