An explosion rocked South Philadelphia this afternoon leaving one injured. It happened around 3:15 p.m. at Veolia North America's Schuylkill Station steam facility at 26th and Christian Streets in Gray's Ferry. A boiler exploded at the steam and electricity plant. All employees were able to evacuate safely. Philadelphia Fire responded quickly and initially treated it as a hazardous materials incident. Neighbors were told to stay inside before the all clear was given. There was no fire. One person was injured when the blast shattered the windows in their home across the street. They were treated at the scene. Veolia provides thermal energy to 300 clients in Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has ordered the Confederate flag removed Wednesday from a display inside the Pennsylvania State Capitol after a state representative from Philadelphia had taken it upon herself to take it down Tuesday evening. The Hanover Area Historical Society's summer display is located in the East Wing Rotunda and displays over 50 flags representing eras of North American history from the Vikings to modern day. This included several from the Civil War. Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown from Philadelphia who is also the chair of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, removed the flag herself Tuesday and turned it into House Speaker Mike Turzai. When the flag was back on display today, Brown brought it to the attention of the governor. Brown said that her objection was the information placard underneath the flag did not properly say that this was a “symbol of hatred, murder and oppression.” Wolf spokesman Jeff Sheridan said, "The governor believes the Confederate flag is a symbol of racism and hatred and does not believe it should be on display in a state building or that it should be celebrated in any way."

The body of the 2-year-old boy who was taken by an alligator in Walt Disney World has been found. Searchers have been looking for 16 hours since the boy was snatched from the edge of Seven Seas Lagoon. Officials say that Lane Graves of Elkhorn, NE, was probably drowned by the alligator and that he was left near where he was last seen. The boy's body is still intact. An autopsy is planned. The boy was on vacation with his family. He was playing near the water's edge in a foot or so of water Tuesday evening when the animal grabbed him. Lane's father fought to save his son but couldn't fend it off. There are "No Swimming" posted signs but no clear warnings about alligators.
