LaBelle, Gamble, Huff Get Marian Anderson Award; Body Found Handcuff in Park; 5 Shot in Wilmington

Mayor Jim Kenney along with the award's Board of Directors announced this year's recipients of the Marian Anderson Award. The award recognizes critically acclaimed artists who not only have had great artistic achievements but have positively impacted society through their work, service, or support of important causes. This year there will be multiple recipients. Philadelphia R&B singer Patti LaBelle along with Sound of Philadelphia producers Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. Past recipients include Bill Cosby, Oprah Winfrey, Maya Angelou, Sidney Poitier, Harry Belafonte and more. The award ceremony will take place in November.

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a woman's body was discovered in Fairmount Park on Tuesday morning. The unidentified woman was found around 8:15 a.m. by a passerby on the 5300 block of Georges Hill Drive near the Mann Center by a passerby. She was face-down and handcuffed with multiple stab wounds and a gun shot to the back of the head. Police believe that she was killed elsewhere and dumped at the park. She had several defensive wounds indicating she fought back against her attacker. The woman is described a black female in her 20's, 5' 5", thin build, wearing a white top and multi-colored skirt. She had three distinctive tattoos. Captain James Clark of the Philadelphia Police Department said, "She had the word 'loyal' across her chest, she had the word 'kash' with a K on her right wrist, and a tattoo of a rose on her right thigh." Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia Police.

Five people were wounded in a shooting on Tuesday night in Wilmington, DE. It happened around 9:15 p.m. on Van Buren Street near Read Street. The shooter opened fire and fled the scene. Officers found three of the victims on Van Buren and two others on nearby Harrison. It has been reported that three of the victims are juveniles. Anyone with information should contact Wilmington Police.
