Memorial Day Traffic, Kane Office Messages, New American Citizens Take Oath

Farley Service Plaza was full of many tan faces after a Memorial Day Weekend down the shore, but some red ones too from anger and frustration caused by the ride home. Four hours was one driver's time from Avalon to South Philly. On a scale of 1-10 with ten being the worst it was probably an eight or nine as some of the worst traffic ever seen. Backups on the Garden State Parkway northbound reached around 20 miles at one point.

It was a wacky holiday weekend in the office of embattled Attorney General Kathleen Kane. The announcement Saturday morning set off a buzz: on Tuesday, Attorney General Kathleen Kane would release the much-anticipated preliminary findings of the investigation into "inappropriate" emails captured on Attorney General's Office servers. Then Monday afternoon, another announcement from Kane's new second-in-command, Bruce Castor: the email event was cancelled, with Castor explaining that he didn't realize the preliminary report wasn't ready for release. Even before all this unfolded, Chuck Ardo, Kane's most recent of more than half a dozen press secretaries, announced his intention to step down, saying he can no longer in good conscience do a job he says requires him to "explain the inexplicable."

Memorial Day is often a time to relax, barbecue, or build sand castles down the shore, but for more than three dozen people, Monday was the start of a new life, as an American citizen. Under a cloudy sky, aboard the Battleship New Jersey , dozens of families gathered to celebrate what it means to be free. The ceremony kicked off with a somber moment; tossing a wreath of red, white and blue flowers into the Delaware River. The wreath represented the men and women who lost their lives fighting for freedom. 29 countries from across the world were represented. More than three dozen people took the oath to become United States citizens.
