Officer Stable After Shooting; Brick Spill Snarls Highway; Tax Deadline Tonight

After a Philadelphia Police officer was shot in West Philadelphia one suspect is in custody, while the gunman is still on the loose. On the 5900 block of Market St. Officer James McCullough was shot while trying to stop a robbery. McCullough was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. His fiancÃ©e is by his side at the hospital. The officer is expected to be released sometime Monday. McCullough has been on the police force for two years. Police say the 24-year-old officer and his partner were flagged down by a woman who told them that two men were breaking into her car. Officials say as McCullough approached the woman's car, two men got out and started to run away. He tackled a suspect then applied his own tourniquet on his leg when one of the suspects shot him and began to run away. Police say McCullough then fired at the suspect, who continued running.

UPDATE: The shooting suspect has been taken into custody and a gun has been recovered. The non-shooting suspect was taken into custody last night.

A tractor-trailer carrying bricks overturned in Lawrence Twp., Mercer County at the I-95/I-295 merger this morning about 6:30 causing major traffic delays. The overturned truck and a massive load of bricks spread over the shoulder and two lanes of the three-lane highway. The driver of the big rig was reportedly hurt. Traffic approaching the crash site was backed up for several miles as crews worked to right the truck and clear the bricks and other debris.

Millions of taxpayers face a midnight deadline to file their tax returns, while millions of others will ask for more time -a six-month extension. The filing deadline on Monday was delayed three days beyond the traditional April 15 deadline because Friday was a legal holiday in the District of Columbia, Emancipation Day. The holiday commemorates President Abraham Lincoln's signing the Emancipation Act in 1862 freeing more than 3,000 slaves and compensated their owners.
