Port Richmond Hit-Run Arrest; SEPTA Key Coming in June; South Jersey Farmer Dies in Accident

Philadelphia Police have identified and arrested the driver in a hit-and-run accident on Wednesday night in Port Richmond that left one person dead. 62-year-old Ramon Morales of the 4200 block of Cedar Street was taken into custody on Thursday. He faces charges of Murder, Accident Involving Death, Homicide by Vehicle and Involuntary Manslaughter. The accident happened around 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday at Aramingo and Lehigh avenues. Morales was making a right turn onto Lehigh in a 2005 Pontiac Aztec SUV when he hit 36-year-old Thomas Dunbar riding a motor scooter. Dunbar was thrown from the scooter and dragged by the SUV for about 200 feet. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police located the SUV about 90 minutes later and a mile from the accident site. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said, â€œwe're certain the driver of the striking vehicle knew what he did.â€

SEPTA announced that it will begin to roll out its long awaiting electronic key card program starting on June 13th. 10,000 cards will be available in this initial pilot program on a first come, first serve basis. The cards will be available at 6 locations along the Broad Street Line and 6 places along the Market Frankford Line. Weekly and Monthly passes can be purchased and put on the cards. Riders can use them on the subway lines, trollies, bus routes, and the Norristown High Speed line. Regional Rail is not available at this time. Cards can be replenished with credit/debit cards and soon accounts can be setup to automatically replenish when funds get low. The keys work simply by tapping the readers installed throughout the transit system.

A 73-year-old farmer died after a tragic accident in Burlington County, NJ, on Thursday. It happened around 2 p.m. Thursday on the 100 block of Carranza Road in Tabernacle. Anthony Russo III was struck by a tractor on his own farm, Russo's Fruit & Vegetable Farm. He was taken to Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly where he pronounced dead an hour later. Russo was well known in the area and his operation is prominent in the Garden State. The farm was started by his father in 1940. You can find more information at: http://www.russosfruitandveg.com
