| Mother Charged in Strangling Newborn; Reading Terminal Market Leader Dies; Services for Ofc. Colson |

Authorities say a Franklin Township, NJ woman has been charged in connection with the death of her newborn infant daughter. According to police, Jade Fanz,19, has been charged with murder and related offenses in the death of her newborn infant, whose body was found February 27th on the property of her family's Proposed Avenue residence. According to the complaint, Fanz caused the death of the infant girl "by applying pressure to the throat" and strangling her until she was deceased. Police sources say Fanz went to Kennedy Hospital in Blackwood after the baby's birth for treatment after she began hemorrhaging. Investigators followed up and began searching for the baby. Fanz has been placed in jail in default of $250,000 bail.
An influential leader at the Reading Terminal Market has died. Michael Holahan of Elkins Park, a merchant for three decades inside the Reading Terminal Market who became one of the venerable institution's most influential forces, died Wednesday, March 16, of heart failure at Abington Hospital-Jefferson Health. Holohan was 58 years old. He and his wife, Julie, opened the Pennsylvania General Store in 1987 when "the market was all beat up," longtime friend Brent Cossrow said. "In a very understated and not visible to the public way, he helped to change the market," said Cossrow, vice chairman of the Reading Terminal Market Corp., whom Holahan approached a decade ago to be the merchants' first general counsel. "He was a born leader, but not an over-the-top machismo leader."
Funeral arrangements have been made for 28 year old police officer, Jacai Colson, a Delaware County native who was fatally shot during an ambush attack at the Maryland police department where he worked. Colson, who was raised in Boothwyn, was killed while on duty as an undercover police officer Sunday. He was shot by a fellow Prince George's County Police officer who did not recognize Colson and viewed him as a threat, according to the department's chief. Viewings will be held on Thursday, March 24, from 2 to 9 p.m. at Borgwardt Funeral Home at 4400 Powder Mill Road in Beltsville, Md., and on Friday, March 25, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden at 600 Watkins Park Drive in Upper Marlboro, Md. A memorial service will follow the March 25 viewing at the church.
