Stolen Vehicle Baby Found, Rittenhouse Stabbing Suspect Charged, Zoo Summer Break Teacher Pass

A baby, reported to be in the backseat of a stolen car earlier this morning in West Philadelphia, has been found safe, but police are still looking for the suspect. Police say they found the four-month-old baby on the steps of a private residence at Penn and Greene Streets in Germantown. The baby was not injured but taken to St. Christopher's Hospital to get checked out. This all started a little before eight this morning. Police say the baby was in the back seat of a white Town and Country minivan that was stolen at 48th and Walnut. Police say the babyâ€™s father went into a store but kept the van running. Police are still looking for the van, license plate beginning with J-M-X, and the driver. Anyone with information is urged to call police.

Police have identified the suspect and victim in a deadly stabbing that occurred in Rittenhouse Square early Sunday morning. Authorities say 24-year-old Colin McGovern from Churchville, Pennsylvania died at Hahnemann Hospital after being stabbed multiple times in the torso. Police say Steven E. Simminger, from Media, Pennsylvania, is charged with murder and related offenses. Authorities say a preliminary investigation revealed McGovern and his friend were involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect over a NJ Devils baseball cap, which then escalated into a physical altercation.

The Philadelphia Zoo says it will again offer its popular â€œSummer Break Teacher Passâ€ to certified/licensed pre-K to 12th grade classroom teachers, principals and assistant principals who work in public, private and charter schools. The pass is valid for an individual single admission, Mondays through Fridays, from June 15 to August 31, 2016. Teachers can use the pass to visit the Zoo multiple times during this period. Registration opens Monday, March 14 on the Zooâ€™s website at http://www.philadelphiazoo.org/Learn/schoolvisits/Teacher-Resources.htm. The Zoo says each teacher must complete his or her own application and create their own account using their email address to print their Teacher Pass. Teachers must register online for one individual pass and must bring BOTH a valid pass and their teacher ID, union card or school district pay stub each time they visit the Zoo.
