George Martin, the Beatles' producer, often referred to as the fifth Beatle has died. Martin quietly guided the band's transformation from rowdy club act to musical and cultural revolutionaries. In a career that spanned seven decades he was an inspiration to many and is recognized globally as one of music's most creative talents. Sir George Martin died peacefully at home. He was 90. Beatles drummer Ringo Starr tweeted: "God bless George Martin peace and love to Judy and his family love Ringo and Barbara. George will be missed." British Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted that Martin "was a giant of music — working with the Fab Four to create the world's most enduring pop music." Too modest to call himself the "Fifth Beatle," a title many felt he deserved, the tall, elegant Londoner produced some of the most popular and influential albums of modern times — "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," ''Revolver," ''Rubber Soul," ''Abbey Road" — elevating rock LPs from ways to cash in on hit singles to art forms, "concepts." He won six Grammys and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in 1999. Three years earlier, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

The owners of Center City's Lit Bros. building are restoring the former department store's historic moniker, as its main tenant - Bank of New York Mellon - slims down its presence at the site. Philly.com reports that Brickstone Cos. is striking Mellon Independence Center from 701 Market St. and replacing it with a new, old name: The Lits Building. The name change comes amid signs that BNY Mellon may be on track to vacate the 718,000-square-foot Market East building in summer 2017 as it downsizes in Philadelphia.

A Delaware County emergency medical technician has been arrested for swapping nude photos and videos with an underage junior firefighter. Melissa M. Givens, 30, of Norwood, was charged with sexual abuse of children, corruption of minors and related offenses for sexting the 17-year-old boy, according to police records. Givens, who is married to Norwood Fire Company Chief Chris Givens, told police that she "started getting serious" with the teen in December, according to an affidavit. When a detective interviewed her Feb. 26, she admitted she knew the boy was underage, knew what school he went to and was still involved with him, according to the affidavit. Detectives found eight sexually explicit pictures and two videos of Givens on the boy's electronic device, and three photos and two videos the boy had sent her, according to the affidavit.
