$400k Jewelry Heist on Video; Seth Williams Talks McCoy Case; Ridley High Teacher Arrested

Philadelphia Police are seeking the public's help in identifying two men caught on video in a jewelry theft on Jewelers' Row. It happened around 3 a.m. on the 700 block of Sansom Street on February 13th. Two men in dark clothing and wearing masks were able to get in through the security gate and front door of Barsky's Diamonds. They proceeded to break into several glass display cases. It looks like the two men knew exactly what they wanted to take. After a short time they left the store and headed east on Sansom and possibly north on 7th. The bandits made off with $400,000 worth of jewels. Anyone who recognizes the suspects should contact Philadelphia Police at 215.686.TIPS (8477). Watch surveillance video of the heist:



Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams addressed Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police President John McNesby's criticism of his handling of the investigation into a bar fight that left two duty officers seriously injured. McNesby called the fight between his officers and former Philadelphia Eagle LeSean McCoy and his friends 'aggravated assault' and expressed frustration in the delay in the filing of charges on McCoy or anyone else involved. In a statement released today Williams said he was “elected to charge the right people with the right crimes nothing more nothing less. My goal is to get it right, not fast. The last thing we need is a rush to judgement.” Williams also clarified that they are using the same standards of justice regardless of who is involved, whether that is the police officers as victims or a person of fame as an alleged attacker.

“My team and I are continuing to investigate the incident that took place at the Recess Lounge. Like with all investigations, I don't comment about what I will or will not do until all of the evidence has been thoroughly reviewed.

I understand that people are interested in the outcome of our investigation, but we're not going to rush because some people are impatient – and to say that I am unwilling to prosecute a difficult case is a little misinformed. I'm the DA who has prosecuted police, gone after priests who shielded pedophiles, lawmakers who were caught on tape taking money for political favors and the people who attacked a gay couple in Center City.

The people of Philadelphia elected me to charge the right people with the right crimes nothing more and nothing less. My goal is to get it right, not fast. The last thing we need is a rush to judgement.

I can handle the challenge of difficult cases and I'm only going to operate on one timeline: The timeline that ends when all the evidence is collected, has been reviewed and I have made the decision to charge or not charge a case.

A high school physics teacher and track coach in Delaware County has been arrested for having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student. 52-year-old Gregory A. Stanczuk of West Chester is charged with institutional sexual assault, a felony of the third degree. Stanczuk has been a teacher at Ridley High School for more than 30 years. According to the victim, a former student, he was her track coach all four years and her teacher freshman year. They became close during her senior year after she broke up with her boyfriend, and that relationship turned sexual. District Attorney Jack Whelan said, "As a teacher and coach, Gregory Stanczuk flagrantly used his position of trust and authority to exploit the victim, manipulating her emotionally for his own sexual gratification." Police ask parents if they believe their child has been victimized to call Sgt. Robin F. Clark of the Delaware County District Attorney’s Criminal Investigation Division Child Abuse Unit at 610-891-4118.
